Ever wonder where and how New Hampshire raises nearly a million trout for stocking local ponds and streams? This is a great time of year to visit the Milford Fish Hatchery! It is open to the public Monday-Friday from 8:00-4:00.
Hatchery grounds include large outdoor fish viewing tanks with trout at many different stages of development, as well as interactive educational exhibits related to hatchery operations, fisheries management, and the value of riparian areas (the areas bordering rivers and other bodies of surface water).
**Be sure to bring some quarters for the fish food machines. Your kids will get so excited to see the fish jumping and thrashing as they race for the food!
There is also a short nature trail, constructed by the Milford Conservation Commission, that follows along Purgatory Brook. Some of the wildlife you may see if you walk the wetland and riparian areas include wood turtles, northern leopard frog, mink, deer, turkey, red-winged blackbirds, and beaver, just to name a few!
Milford Fish Hatchery is located at 386 North River Rd. in Milford
