Does your child gag at the sight, smell, touch, or taste of certain foods?
Do they prefer to eat only certain textures or tastes?
Did they not go through an oral stage as a baby/toddler where they mouthed and chewed on toys and other objects? Or maybe you find they excessively chew or mouth objects past the age of 18 months…
If your child eats a very limited amount of foods they may be experiencing sensory food aversions which are often because of the way their brain is interpreting the sensations they get from foods.
For more on food aversions, sensory issues and picky eating take a look at Taste Sensitivities: If My Child Avoids Certain Foods, is it More than Picky Eating?
If you have questions about your child’s eating habits please consult their pediatrician.
