If your child is turning 5 by September 30 of this year it is time to get them registered for Kindergarten! It’s an exciting time in your child’s life but often one that comes with anxious feelings for your child about leaving home and making new friends, and fears for parents wondering if your child is ready?

Most parents find a good starting point is checking their child’s knowledge of ABC’s, numbers and shapes. Though these skills are important and useful, readiness for school involves more than just knowing the alphabet and writing a name. Schooling and learning involve more than just the brain; it requires the whole body. Learning is a physical activity as well as a mental one.

To check your child’s learning readiness take a look at this informative article from Integrated Learning Strategies  It will walk you through a set of simple tasks and basic skill development (including important self-help skills) that will play a role in your child’s readiness for school.

Also, try to remember, a big part of your child’s ability to succeed in school is the development of a love of learning and sense of wonder and curiosity. For more on this check out our previous blog post on Simple Ways to Help Your Child Love Learning
