Applications for the FREE Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) are now being accepted!

Classes begin January 2025 at Manchester Community College (21 sessions)

PLTI enables individuals to become strong advocates for children. This program helps parents, grandparents, caregivers, and interested community members develop the civic skills necessary to analyze civic issues, connect with government and bring about important changes in their communities.

Participants benefit by acquiring tools that include:

  • -How government works.
  • -What public policy is.
  • -Understanding budgets and resource allocations.
  • -Ways to reach local, state and elected leaders.
  • -Voting and why it matters.
  • -How to lead group discussions and gather ideas.
  • -How to work with diversity in the community
  • -Ways to empower themselves and their communities.

There are four phases of training:

  1. A retreat to develop the group and define the mission.
  2. 10-week course on parent leadership.
  3. 10-week study of politics, policy and media.
  4. A community project to practice the learning within a community context.
