Whether you’re looking for something to do with all the little pieces of leftover sidewalk chalk, or you’re ready for a way to mix things up a little…try making some DIY chalk paint with the simple recipe below!
Ingredients:
- Sidewalk Chalk
- Baking Soda
- Water
- Spoon
- One bowl/container for each color and a lid for storing
- Paint Brushes
- Meat tenderizer or rubber mallet
- 1 quart plastic FREEZER bags
- Muffin tin
Directions:
- Have your kids help you sort the colors, putting one color of chalk into each plastic bag and zip closed (Freezer bags work best as they are a little thicker and withstand the pounding without breaking or tearing).
- Let them use a meat tenderizer or rubber mallet to pound on the bags of chalk pieces until they are a fine powder with no big chunks. You may have to do the last little bit of pounding to help with this.
- Pour the powder into a bowl and add approx.1 tbsp. of baking soda. If you have a large amount of chalk dust you can add more baking soda to thicken the paint
- Slowly add water 1-2 tbsp. at a time and mix well until desired consistency is reached. You want it to be thicker than water but thinner than paste.
- Keep the paints in separate bowls or containers or consider pouring just a little of each color into a muffin tin for easier use.
- Use a paintbrush to paint fun designs on your driveway. πΈβοΈππΆπ
